The Ultimate Palworld Breeding Guide
Everything you need to know about Breeding Power, Cakes, and unlocking Tier-S Pals.
Breeding is arguably the most important mechanic in Palworld if you want to optimize your base workers and build the ultimate combat team. Instead of relying purely on RNG (Random Number Generation) while exploring, the breeding farm allows you to predictably combine Pals to get exactly what you want.
1. Setting up your Breeding Farm
Before you can start combining Pals, you need to reach Level 19 in the Technology tree to unlock the Breeding Farm. Building it requires:
- 100 Wood
- 20 Stone
- 50 Fiber
Once built, you need to assign one Male and one Female Pal to the farm by lifting them up and throwing them into the breeding pen.
2. The Secret Ingredient: Cake
Pals will not breed without Cake. You must place a Cake inside the wooden box attached to the Breeding Farm. Baking a Cake requires a Cooking Pot and the following ingredients:
- 5 Flour (requires Wheat and a Mill)
- 8 Red Berries
- 7 Milk (from Mozzarina)
- 8 Eggs (from Chikipi)
- 2 Honey (from Beegarde)
3. Understanding Breeding Power
Unlike other monster-taming games, Palworld doesn't rely strictly on egg groups. Instead, every Pal has a hidden "Breeding Power" number between 10 and 1500. Lower numbers indicate rarer, stronger Pals.
When two Pals breed, the game calculates the offspring using this formula:
(Parent A Power + Parent B Power) / 2 = Offspring Power
The game then finds the Pal whose power closest matches that result.

4. Passing Down Passives
Breeding isn't just for discovering new species; it's essential for min-maxing stats. Offspring have a high chance of inheriting Passive Skills from their parents. If you want a perfectly fast flying mount, you should breed parents that have the "Swift" and "Runner" passives.
Conclusion
Mastering the breeding system will save you countless hours of grinding. Start small by breeding early-game workers with beneficial passives, and slowly work your way up to legendary combinations.
