How this calculator works
This browser-based tool helps you make a first, transparent estimate from the values you provide. Enter the figures in the fields and the result updates as you edit them. JavaScript performs the calculation on your device; the calculator does not send your salary, property, vehicle or account details to a calculation server. Keep supporting documents secure and only enter sensitive figures on a device you trust.
Formula, assumptions and limits
Estimate German net salary using an indicative 2026 income tax tariff and simplified deductions. The German income tax tariff is set out in section 32a EStG; tax classes affect wage-tax withholding under sections 38 onward.
Do not rely on a rounded estimate for a tax return, payment or legal decision. Compare it with official notices, current rate tables and professional advice where needed. Real-world outcomes may include additional reliefs, fees, rate changes or personal circumstances that a simple calculator cannot represent. Your entries are not saved and are discarded when you close the tab.
Use the output as a planning aid: verify each input, read the assumptions and adjust the figures when your circumstances differ. If an important detail is uncertain, contact the relevant authority or a qualified tax, legal or financial professional.
Before acting, check your inputs, tax year and jurisdiction. Note the assumptions used, compare the result with records and official guidance, and recalculate when rules or your circumstances change.
What affects German take-home pay
This estimate converts monthly gross pay to annual income and applies an indicative 2026 German individual income-tax tariff. It allows for the employee expense allowance, solidarity surcharge above its threshold, optional church tax and employee contributions to health, long-term care, pension and unemployment insurance. Enter your health fund’s additional contribution rate; the default is the 2026 average of 2.9 per cent. Contribution ceilings limit the amounts used for social insurance. The result separates estimated monthly deductions so you can see how each assumption affects the gap between gross and net pay. Use a current payslip to compare the result with your own deductions and check that the entered state and insurance details match your situation.
Tax classes I to VI appear because they affect monthly wage-tax withholding, but this page does not run the complete official payroll tax tables for each class. Its annual income-tax figure is a simplified individual tariff estimate. Classes III, V and VI can therefore produce materially different payslip deductions; class III can also depend on a spouse’s income and tax features. Children, allowances, benefits in kind, private health cover, salary sacrifice, pension arrangements and other deductions are not fully modelled. The estimate is not a payslip, tax return calculation or tax assessment. For a precise monthly forecast, compare the result with an employer payroll calculation using your ELStAM data, or ask a German tax professional to review the relevant documents.
